There is still plenty of time! Nothing beats a top-down fall color tour on a nice sunny fall day.
This Auction is for a nice low mileage 1981 Fiat 2000 Spider Convertible. Styled and built by Pininfarina. This car matches the Center spread in the 1981 Fiat Brochure. It is an all Original 1 owner – adult owned car with less than 52,000 miles (about 3,000/yr). This rust-free car has never seen winters, never been hit/damaged and has all of its original paint. Well documented from new with a copy of the original window sticker, brochures, owner’s manual, warranty book and service records - including Mickey’s Rustproofing when new. Car is equipped with a 2.0 Litre (1995cc/122cu. in.) 4 Cylinder DOHC Fuel Injected Engine with Electronic Ignition and a 5 Speed Stick. 4 Wheel Disc Brakes with Optional Factory Alloy Wheels. Car came equipped with California Emission Control System and was EPA Estimated at 25/36mpg. Factory padded Sport Steering Wheel, Electronic Tach, Quartz Clock and Simulated Woodgrain Dash. Has an aftermarket Sony AM/FM Cassette XR-300 Radio.
Cosmetically the car is in very nice over all condition with a few very minor nicks and a couple wear spots on the pinstriping. Some door edge guards would cover most of the nicks! The hood has 1 very slight crease about 1.5” long. Headlights, taillights, turn signals all work. Dash lights, speedo, tach, heater and wipers work. The passenger seat belt is frayed, and the inboard portion of the driver’s side seatbelt has been replaced. Clock will need replacement or repair and a new lens. The light tan floor carpeting has a few stains and discoloration after 37 years. Currently there are black floor mats down over the original carpet and personally I like the way it looks. Could use a new driver’s side sun visor too. The clock, sun visors and carpet are minor cosmetic items and readily available and easily addressed if you choose. You only need the center floor mat section of carpet, which can be replaced in minutes.
The owner noted that the Temp gauge can be erratic and peg hot sometimes but checks out fine (not overheating). Also, occasionally after driving the car a while, after 10 mins or so it may not start right back up until it cools down further - most-likely due to Heat Soak. Note: This is not due to overheating. My guess is it is due to a 37 year old starter and/or cable. A couple easy cost free solutions are to let the car idle for a minute before shutting it down and/or popping the hood for a bit to let the heat escape (as opposed to "soaking" into the components). Tires have good tread but are older All Season Steelbelt Radials. For around town they are fine - if you plan to hop on the freeway a new set would be recommended. (BTW if you are unaware this is true for any car with tires 6 years or older regardless of the tread condition.). Convertible top was replaced in 1996 and still looks good but shows age discoloration inside. The Boot will need repair or replacement if you intent to use it (The last photo is the bracket that will need to be reinserted into the repaired or replacement boot.).
The car was driven from Elyria to Broadview Hts. including freeway driving and drives flawlessly. It starts right up, idles fine, stops straight, tracks nice and has plenty of pep.
Overall this is a very nice unmolested/original low mileage adult owned car. There is something to be said for originality - Don’t miss out! This is a car you can just hop in and drive! You can find the space! It is small at just over 13.5’ by 5.25’ wide. And no excuses that “I’m too big”, I’m almost 6’ 5” and I fit fine (but if you have big feet - wear narrow shoes – hiking boots won’t cut it with 3 pedals to tend to.)
Hagerty Values these at $12,200 in average condition, we have a very fair reserve on this vehicle that is WAY under that.
If you have any other questions or concerns that I may have not covered, please ask before bidding. If you would like to see the car, please contact Len @ 440-832-0909 to arrange a time.
Payment required within 3 business days of the auction close. Once paid, we will coordinate with the owner(s) transfer/notarizing of the title. This may take a few days to coordinate - we will keep you informed and coordinate pickup of the vehicle.
