1970 FORD GALAXIE XL - LOW MILES
RESERVE IS MET! IT IS SELLING! DON'T MISS OUT!
1970 Ford Galaxie XL with approx. 78K miles. Last year for the XL.
This is a low mileage 1 owner car. It has approx. 78K miles. Red with Black Vinyl top and Burgundy Interior. 351-2V with Cruise-O-Matic on the column. Power Steering and Brakes. Remote Driver Side Mirror. All Lights and Gauges (except the clock) work as do the Wipers, Heater, Rear Defroster and even the Cigarette Lighter. Has an AM/FM Stereo. Hide-away/Turn-around headlights are working. Tires look almost new – Cooper Lifeliner GLS 215/70R15. The factory original spare and jack are in the trunk. Nice Optional Factory Mag Style Hubcaps. Exhaust from the muffler back is newer.
Cosmetically, amazingly, there are no dents, except for 1 piece of trim for the vinyl top and a slight bow in the rear bumper. There are minor nicks and scuffs on the car and the car looks to have been resprayed from the body side molding down at some point. Paint is oxidized and needs to be rubbed out. Car was undercoated when new - not pretty but kept it from rusting out on the underside. Surprisingly there looks to be no rust under the vinyl top and the trunk looks to be solid as well. Unfortunately, the tin worm has gotten to the lower edges/corners of the sheet metal – the front fenders and around the rear wheel wells and rear quarters. Chrome should all clean up well – no major pitting, except for the Hood “XL” and the wheel well trim (due to the rust.).
Interior is in very nice condition except for 2 seam splits on the front bench seat, the vinyl is still very supple so it may be able to be repaired verses replaced. The knob on the driver’s side window crank is missing. All windows roll up and down easily. Door panels front and rear, the rear seat, carpet and headliner look great. Minimal wear on the driver side carpet.
Engine compartment will need a clean and detail, the front of the motor is oily/greasy due to leaky valve cover gaskets.
The car had not been run in some time; I was able to get it started after charging the battery. The car was driven up and down the street – it shifts and moves forward and back under its own power and stops.
I would recommend not trying to drive this home if you purchase it. It probably will need a carb rebuild/tune-up and at a minimum the front disc. brakes done. (Car was stumbling off idle and the front master cylinder reservoir was very low.) I filled the reservoir, but suspect it is, or will be leaking once you start trying to use the brakes.
This would make a great entry level vintage car if you or someone you know can do some metal work, or certainly one to learn on. I did a quick check and it looks like Auto Krafters makes the Quarters for this (in 2 pieces a front half and back half joined above the wheel well.). They are approx. $145 and $166 ea. respectively and provide way more metal than you would need for the repairs.
Car comes with a nice car cover, but it will need a bit of repair by the antenna area.
