Unique 19th Century Dough Box

Description

Unique 19th Century Dough Box with a dovetail drawer, porcelain and metal vintage hardware.  The top (where the dough kneading happened) has a stain on it, and lifts to reveal a deep storage place (where the dough would rise).  The lower cabinet, on the bottom, has a unique latch closure, and also a wooden catch inside the left door to keep it from opening up.

When households typically baked their own bread, dough was placed in a wooden box to allow it to rise. Then the bread was kneaded on the flat removable top. This dough box is from the mid-19th century.  The cabinet underneath was latched so multiple loaves could be rising.  The upper storage section is where flour was kept (according to a few articles that I found).
