Description

Late Victorian, Enameled Satin Glass, Hand Vases & Hand Painted, Decorative Fine China Bowl

  • Each of these vintage figural Hand Vases are made from a satin glass with a ruffled cuff, a finger ring and a wavy ruffled rim, with a rounded oval base.  A female hand with a lacy cuff and ring on the ring finger grasping a trumpet flower shaped vessel with grooved sides, beaded ring and wavy ruffled rim.  These have been described as coming from the Victorian era and later, as well as many variations on this theme. They are sometimes marked, sometimes not.  This vase has no discernible maker's marks and has no labels.   Each vase has enameled art decorating all around the vase.  It appears to be hand painted, as the art differs from the other vase.  There are a few dark areas in the ruffle which seem to be part of the nature of the glass.  The ring on the one vase has begun to fade, but a good artist might be able to correct that.  The vases have slight variations in size and 'ruffle', which lends me to think that they are handmade glass also, but my knowledge is very limited on glass.  I was able to discover that this style is called Bohemian Glass.  They measure approximately 4.5"w/ 4"d/ 8.75"h.
  • The Fine China bowl is hand painted, and not suitable for food, but extremely lovely for display with its beautiful floral design and gold dusted edge.  It is numbered with the Crown mark and a "R" encased in a circle as if it was register mark or maybe like a branding (Circle R Branch of Royal Crown?).  I found this explanation from an expert in the field, "The mark shown is one of the 'crown' type pottery mark variations known to be used by a company called "Arnart Creations" (1953 until 2001).   In the case of Arnart, the wares are decent enough looking, and the skill of the artisan to be considered.  Actually, the Arnart wares something of historical interest in themselves - as they represent to future generations an interesting snippet of 20th century history.  I would be promoting Arnart wares, not by trying to pass them off as European fine china, but as highly collectible wares of the future".  This bowl measures 7.25" in diameter and 1-3/8" high.  The floral design looks like a 19th century hand painting and compliments the Victorian Vases nicely.
