Description

Original authentic Don Freedman "Catalyst" fiber weaving wall sculpture signed with his signature medallion. Dated 1976. Handcrafted for Interlude. Newark, NJ.

Don Freedman was an American artist who specialized in creating fiber art wall hangings. He used natural materials such as jute, wool, cotton, and clay to weave intricate and expressive tapestries. He often incorporated elements of nature, such as birds, trees, landscapes, and geometric shapes, into his designs. He was active from the 1960s to the 1990s and his works are highly collectible and sought-after by vintage enthusiasts.

A catalyst weaving is a term that Freedman used to describe his process of creating fiber art. He explained that he would start with a basic idea or a sketch, and then let the materials and the weaving technique guide him to the final result. He said that he did not plan everything in advance, but rather allowed the weaving to evolve and change as he worked. He called this approach a catalyst weaving, because he believed that the weaving itself was a catalyst for his creativity and expression.
