Description

3/10 Update: Had several people take test drives today, unfortunately on one of the runs the tranny seemed to go out and the van would not move. After shutting the van off and restarting it after a few minutes it was again able to move under its own power, so I don't suspect an overheating issue as it was only a couple minutes, that said figure it would be best to tow it to your location. Also a couple diagnostic screen shot photos have been added.

2010 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Cargo/Work Van. 3.0 liter Turbo Diesel 6 Cylinder with Automatic Transmission. Mileage is currently 169,670.

Note: This vehicle will need some TLC and should be considered a project/Mechanics Special. While it runs/drives, it sat for over 3 years. As a result, you can assume the fuel is bad, and there is likely water in the tank. So, assume you will need to drain the tank (fortunately there is not a lot of diesel in the tank). Likewise assume you will need to install a new fuel filter. Additionally, when we drove it to our facility it appears it may be in “limp mode” (possibly due to the bad fuel or???). Brakes tend to fade a bit, but you can pump them up to stop. Also, there is a noise by the driver side front tire. Speaking of the tires - on the upside the wheels look good and there is a lot of tread on the Firestone Transforce tires. In taking the photos I also noticed that it appears the turbo was welded/repaired at some point. Surprisingly, no fault/code indicator lights are currently on the gauge panel. Check engine finally came on on the 10th, makes more sense I guess.

It is going to need a new battery as well, if you wish to hear it run etc. I have a jump box that can start it as needed.

The body is in good condition but needs a good wash. It has a handful of small spots with rust as follows (see photos); Front lower corner of the passenger door and both lower corners of the sliding door. The front lower edge of the driver door and the rocker area. Just in front of, and above the driver side taillight (the most notable spot). The right back cargo door has rust on the bottom corner and there are some rust stains that have run down the door from the roof rack. Other than that, just 2 tiny dents above the driver side door handle. Also, just noticed that in certain light at certain angles you can see a “shadow” of a business name that was on the sides of the van. I suspect that as well as the rust stains on the cargo door can be buff out.

Interior – it’s a work truck and needs a good cleaning. No mat/carpet on the driver-side. The driver seat is torn, passenger seat/area looks pretty good. There is a white metal tray that is bolted to the center storage compartment.

Again, this is a Mechanics Special being sold “AS IS”. It will require mechanical skills and resources to make it road worthy.

As you will notice, I’m doing this auction a bit differently than all the others I’ve done. Given the fact that this vehicle needs work, we are starting it at the lowest price the consignor would be willing to let it go for – there will be NO RESERVE. Hopefully, this will give you a head start and allow you to start pricing out parts/repairs as well as set your spending/bidding limit. I did a bit of research and found three examples of similar vans (2010 & 11) that sold for $5,000. One with a blown engine, one with a rod knock and the third described as having “engine issues”. If you have the time and ability, there is still a lot of potential life left in this van. I’ve seen a number of them with 400,000+ miles selling for in excess of $6,000 and one with 600,000 miles sell for over $6,000!

Note: Bid increments for this auction are $50, start to finish.

Vehicle is sold AS-IS with no warranty implied or expressed. We do our best to describe vehicles as accurately as possible.
